Donald Trump's administration on Saturday was accused of promoting the Russian flag, on Flag Day. The Department of Defense over the weekend wished social media a "Happy Flag Day!" "Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all.

The first, local Flag Day observances came after the Civil War and eventually a federal law designated June 14 as Flag Day in 1949, under World War I combat veteran Harry Truman. He declared in a proclamation the next year that the U.S. flag symbolizes freedom and “protection from tyranny.”

A design oversight in the Pentagon's official Flag Day image has caused an uproar online. It's worth noting that the US Defence Department's Flag Day posts from previous years didn't include any design elements like this.

The Pentagon press service congratulated the Americans on the US Flag Day by decorating the postcard with the image of a tricolor very similar to the Russian flag.
