The Mavericks landed the first-overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on May 12 at the lottery in Chicago, helping to heal a fanbase that has been in revolt since the ill-fated Luka Doncic trade just three months prior.

As MacMahon noted, "Sources told ESPN that Patrick Dumont, who just finished his first year as the Mavs' governor, considers the opportunity to be in position to draft a generational talent like Flagg a 'gift.' While Dumont has given Harrison great leeway to run basketball operations, the governor has final decision on all personnel matters."

The Dallas Mavericks do not plan to trade the No. 1 overall pick and will draft top prospect Cooper Flagg, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
