Cynthia Erivo, the Tony Award-winning actress, is having quite the moment, receiving significant praise as the rollout of Wicked continues, and she perhaps has received the greatest compliments and support from her long-rumored partner,

There have long been rumors regarding the timeline of Waithe’s relationship with Erivo. As we mentioned, Waithe met Erivo in 2018 at the Met Gala, but tied the knot with her ex Alana Mayo in 2019. Mayo eventually filed for divorce from Waithe in 2020, as Page Six reported, which is the same year Erivo and Waithe dating rumors began.

“But we were never going for a witchy look,” she added about the making of Erivo’s character. “We were making it very real, very timeless and very connected to everybody. We weren’t going for the prosthetic fantasy version at all. Jon [M. Chu] always wanted everything real.”

She falls into the camp of folks who find enjoyment in singing along with the songs featured in the movie, including beloved tunes “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “The Wizard and I.” On the other side of the debate are the ticketbuyers who prefer to hear only the actors singing along and don’t want their moviegoing experience disrupted.
