Ten communities throughout the state of Alabama are joining a nationwide protest effort on July 17 in response to recent ICE raids and health care cuts carried out by the Trump administration.

A protest dubbed the "Make Good Trouble Rally" in honor of late U.S. Rep. John Lewis is planned for Chicago Thursday in Daley Plaza to oppose President Trump and his policies.

Protests are planned across the nation on Thursday, the anniversary of civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis’ death. Lewis famously coined the term “good trouble” to describe nonviolent civil disobedience that challenges unjust systems.

As Americans gather in parks, on courthouse steps, and in public squares this Thursday, the ‘Good Trouble Lives On movement seeks to reignite a national conversation about the policies issued by the Trump administration.

The local “Make Good Trouble” protest is expected to be one of thousands of demonstrations happening nationwide.

Good Trouble Lives On is a national event of peaceful, nonviolent action in remembrance of Lewis, who died five years ago on July 17. His quote,"Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America," still inspires many Americans.
