OAKLAND — The life of Rickey Henderson was saluted Saturday at the Oakland Arena. It was part celebration of life, part spiritual revival, part memorial service. Mostly, it was Oakland through and through.

Rickey Henderson was celebrated by former teammates, executives, friends and fans Saturday at the arena next to the Oakland Coliseum where he played for so many years and, later, had a field named for him.

The celebration of life for the legendary leadoff man was an exhilarating affair: "He was a legend here in Oakland, California."
