Snow and ice warnings remain in effect across the UK, which recorded its coldest night this winter, with temperatures dropping as low as -12.4°C. A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place for Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland until 10am on January 10.

Hundreds of schools across the UK have been forced to close after the country was hit by overnight snow and ice. A number of yellow weather warnings from the Met Office remain in place for large parts of the UK on Wednesday, with the country facing widespread disruption.
Environment Agency issues flood warnings and alerts in 172 UK areas after snow chaos
The Environment Agency has also issued 116 flood alerts for England, Scotland and Wales, with six areas of England as particular risk.
Weather warnings for snow and ice issued
Parts of Wales are set for another cold snap on Thursday, with two weather warnings in place for snow and ice. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for parts of north, west and mid Wales from 00:15 GMT on Thursday until 11:00.
Travel delays hit London ahead of yellow weather warning for snow
National Rail is also warning travellers to check their journeys in light of the Met Office yellow warnings for snow and ice still in place.
