Three of five fatalities on the Adler glacier near to the Swiss resport of Zermatt have been identified, the Valais public prosecutor's office has confirmed. The avalanche victims are two men aged 38 and 35, and a 34-year-old woman. All of the identified people are Swiss nationals.
The bodies of five skiers have been found by rescuers near Switzerland's luxury Zermatt resort. They were recovered a day after emergency services were alerted by a group of climbers ascending the Rimpfischhorn - a 4,199-metre peak in the Valais Alps - to several pairs of skis left unattended near the summit.
The Rimpfischhorn is a 13,776-foot mountain in the Zermatt region of Switzerland, an area best known for its high-end ski resort at the foot of the world-famous Matterhorn.
Three of the bodies were found in one high-altitude area, while the two others were discovered higher up on the peak on a patch of snow, according to authorities. The identities of the five skiers, who were believed to be travelling as a group,
