US President Donald Trump intervened to broker an agreement among Republicans after a procedural vote stalled the much hyped “Crypto Week” legislations. House Speaker Mike Johnson was also positive that discussions would continue.
A trio of cryptocurrency bills that had been expected to pass the House this week stalled on Tuesday after a bloc of Republicans unexpectedly joined with Democrats to prevent the legislation from coming up for debate and votes.
The GENUIS Act, a stablecoin bill, has already passed the Senate and looks set to become the first standalone crypto measure signed into law. The market structure package called the CLARITY Act could be held up as Democrats have concerns about President Trump's growing crypto empire.
Republicans who voted against the cryptocurrency regulation legislation objected to how the bills were structured.
What Happened: Taking to social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “Happy Crypto Week! The House will soon VOTE on a tremendous Bill to Make America the UNDISPUTED, NUMBER ONE LEADER in Digital Assets – Nobody does it better!"
