President Donald Trump directly controls DC's police and National Guard because of the federal enclave's unique status, experts say.

President Trump on Wednesday said he’ll seek “long-term extensions” from Congress to extend his federal takeover of the Washington police amid his crackdown on crime in the nation’s capital, declining to rule out the possibility of a national emergency.

Asked Wednesday whether he'd work with Congress to extend the emergency authorization allowing him to seize temporary control of local law enforcement, Trump said he'll ask Congress for a "long-term" extension of federal control of the Washington police force.
