China’s share of US imports fell to 7.1% in May, the lowest since 2001, according to trade data published on Thursday by the US Census Bureau. That’s a 4.3 percentage point lower than the same period last year and part of a longer-term decline that began during President Donald Trump’s first term in office.

“Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% Tariff on any and all goods sent into our Territory, and a 40% Tariff on any Transshipping,” Trump said on his social network. “In return, Vietnam will do something that they have never done before, give the United States of America TOTAL ACCESS to their Markets for Trade.”

The United States will place a lower-than-promised tariff on many Vietnamese exports, Donald Trump said, cooling tensions with its tenth-biggest trading partner days before the U.S. president could raise levies on most imports.
