Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel says that seventh-round rookie quarterback will start next Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Steve Sarkisian, Ewers’ coach at Texas, is excited for his former quarterback’s opportunity. But he termed the change as “ bittersweet ” for him because he also coached the QB that Ewers replaced in the lineup, Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa has likely played his last snap with the Dolphins, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, while coach Mike McDaniel’s job is safe.

"The quarterback play last night was not good enough," McDaniel said Tuesday, "and so for me, everything is on the table."
