Gov. Tim Walz asked Portlanders and residents of other major cities to stand in solidarity with Minnesotans hours after a federal immigration officer shot and killed a driver under disputed circumstances.

Walz confirmed Wednesday he has issued a warning order to the state’s National Guard troops, an initial step to increase preparations for potential deployment. Those preparations include additional checks on equipment, and calling service members who may be activated in the coming days.
