Back on top again! Last season’s pole-leader has done it again. Michael McDowell goes P1 in NASCAR Cup Series qualifying at Talladega. This is the second pole of the season for McDowell as he gets his Spire Motorsports Chevy around Dega quicker than anyone else in the field.
NASCAR has been open about exploring changes to the playoffs for the 2026 season, with one proposal floating around that would take the 10-race playoffs to three rounds instead of four, with a final round of 3 races instead of just a single race to decide the champion.
It is McDowell's second pole of the season and the eighth of his Cup Series career. Sunday, however, will be the third straight race he’s led the field at Talladega, having swept the season poles at the facility in 2024.
