President Donald Trump said his administration would look to San Francisco as the next target of his federal crime crackdown, which has been mostly directed at Democrat-run cities.

Trump has deployed the National Guard in Los Angeles; Washington; Chicago; Portland, Oregon, and Memphis, Tennessee, for crime fighting missions.

Before Trump made those comments, Mayor Daniel Lurie and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins had held an event speaking about public safety and the increase in police recruits.

President Donald Trump said he would strongly recommend, at the request of government leaders, sending the National Guard to San Francisco. San Francisco leaders and Governor Newsom say that it is unnecessary.

Crime is down and rents are up in the city, which is rebounding largely thanks to the AI boom.

Trump raised the possibility of deploying the National Guard in San Francisco after Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said he was "all for" the move.
