Texas Tech enters Saturday as 23.5-point favorites, according to ESPN Bet on Thursday, and the number is justifiable. All nine of the Red Raiders’ wins have been by 22 points or more this season, which is the first time a Big 12 school has accomplished that feat since 2009.
In dismantling UCF in a potential letdown spot, the Texas Tech football team proved it can keep the focus when grander ambitions are so close to reality.
UCF lost 30-27 to the Houston Cougars last Friday, failing to cover as a 1-point home favorite as the Over (47.5) cashed. UCF has dropped 5 of its last 6 contests, with much of those struggles coming on the offensive end as it has scored 20 points or fewer in 4 of those games.
Texas Tech has not won an outright conference title game since 1955, yet head coach Joey McGuire left a spot open in the Red Raiders’ Womble Football Center during construction for the conference trophy. He will face either BYU, Cincinnati, Utah or Arizona State for the trophy on Dec. 6 if the Red Raiders win out.
