TAMPA — The Lightning have hired Dan Hinote to fill the vacancy on Jon Cooper’s staff that opened when former assistant Jeff Blashill left last month to become head coach of the Blackhawks.

Dan Hinote will bring all kinds of experience with him to the bench. While in Nashville, he helped build the penalty kill and will help make that even better in Loveland.

The Lightning have hired former NHL forward Dan Hinote as an assistant coach, a spot that opened when Jeff Blashill departed last month for a head coaching job with the Blackhawks.

Hinote also appeared in 72 Stanley Cup Playoff contests and notched six goals and 15 points. In 2001, Hinote won the Stanley Cup with Colorado, appearing in all 23 postseason games.
