The Golden State Valkyries now have their first-ever WNBA All-Star representative in forward Kayla Thornton. On Sunday, the WNBA announced Thornton was chosen by coaches for the 2025 All-Star roster as a reserve.
Star, headed to Indianapolis along with Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier and league’s biggest stars.
Golden State Valkyries veteran Kayla Thornton was named as a reserve for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, the first such honor of her career.
Forward Kayla Thornton, in her 10th WNBA season, made Golden State Valkyries history on Sunday when she was chosen as an All-Star Game reserve.
The 10th year pro for the Golden State Valkyries, a graduate of UTEP and Irvin High in El Paso, was selected as a Western Conference reserve for the game, which will be July 19 in Indianapolis. Her previous all-star appearance was in the last NBA all-star game where she part of the celebrity game.
Kayla Thornton had 21 points and eight rebounds, Tiffany Hayes scored 14 points and the Golden State Valkyries beat the Connecticut Sun 87-63.
The Valkyries fall to 9-9 and are 2-6 on the road as opposed to 7-3 on Chase Center. Both road wins came in Los Angeles against the Sparks, meaning they have yet to win a WNBA game out of the state of California. Golden State was coming of a loss in Minnesota in a game in which they were also competitive only to let it get away late.
