Newark Liberty International Airport will have limited flight departures through at least the fall, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Wednesday. Usually, Newark Airport has between 50-54 departures per hour.

After weeks of chaos, delays and cancellation at the major hub, Duffy claimed there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The airport, which has suffered from staffing shortages and communications breakdowns, faces the first big weekend leading up to summer.

Newark has been plagued by numerous issues for weeks. On Saturday, it saw the second most delays in the country.

Officials reported little to no significant delays at Newark Airport for Memorial Day weekend, a holiday that saw less air travel in the area overall.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that the flight restrictions that have been in place at New Jersey's largest airport will remain in place into mid-June.
