PETA shared a brief post on their website in honor of Ozzy, writing, "Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but PETA will remember the 'Prince of Darkness' most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals — most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations.

PETA has remembered Ozzy Osbourne - who infamously bit the head off a bat during a concert - for the "gentle side" he showed to animals following the Black Sabbath frontman's death aged 76.

As tributes continue to pour in following Ozzy Osbourne’s death at 76, animal-rights organization PETA is remembering the metal icon for the compassion he showed to animals.

The charity wrote: " Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but PETA will remember the 'Prince of Darkness' most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals - most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations.

Born John Michael Osbourne, the English musician rose to fame as the so-called Prince of Darkness with his heavy metal band, Black Sabbath, which he co-founded in 1968. The band released popular hits like “Paranoid,” “Iron Man” and “War Pigs.”

Peta senior vice-president Lisa Lange said: “Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but Peta will remember the ‘Prince of Darkness’ most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals—most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations.

The late legend is survived by his first wife, Thelma Riley and their children, Jessica, Lewis and adopted son Eliot. With Sharon, he shares kids Aimee, Jack and Kelly - the latter of whom the heavy metal pioneer got to see get engaged to Slipknot's Sid Wilson at Black Sabbath's goodbye show.

As the lead singer of Black Sabbath, he helped invent heavy metal. On “The Osbournes,” he presented a comedic counterpoint to his rock ’n’ roll infamy.
