A powerful storm system unleashed multiple tornadoes that touched down in northwest Texas late Thursday night, leaving a trail of destruction and knocking out power for over 10,000 residents.

A multiday stretch of severe weather, with the potential for significant tornadoes, continues Friday across the southern Plains and the mid-South. Damaging winds will accompany several sprawling storm complexes that could reach all the way east to the Tennessee Valley and the Appalachians,
