U.S. President Donald Trump's administration agreed on Friday to refrain from unilaterally cutting off Maine's access to federal funding used to feed school children, ending one of several legal fights stemming from the state's refusal to comply with his demands to ban transgender athletes from girls' sports teams.

The Trump administration has agreed to halt all efforts to freeze funds intended for a Maine child nutrition program after initially suspending those dollars due to a disagreement between the state and the president over transgender athletes.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey announced Friday that the state has reached a settlement with the Trump administration after the federal government took away funding to Maine’s schools over its transgender athlete policies.
