Just over a week into the presidency, President Trump has sent his new Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Israel. He is set to meet with the Israeli Prime Minister and is reportedly discussing phase 2 of the hostage-ceasefire deal.

Trump sent Witkoff to ensure the ceasefire agreement advances to the second phase, which will require hashing out more thorny questions about Gaza’s future.
