Florida apparently has no intention of shutting down Alligator Alcatraz. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier revealed Monday that the state is planning to keep the ICE facility up and running, despite a court order demanding that it shut down within the next two months.

Nearly two months after the hasty and controversial birth of “Alligator Alcatraz,” a federal judge has slammed the brakes on the operation, ruling that no more detainees can be housed at the remote migrant detention camp deep in the marshy wetlands of the Everglades.

A judge sided with the Miccosukee Tribe and said the ICE detention center must close. Florida officials have already appealed.
