In his first start since Jan. 7, but his second game in two days, goalie Alex Lyon gave up 3 first-period goals in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-1 loss.

The Red Wings’ struggles in the Lone Star State continued Sunday with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. The Red Wings (21-21-4) have dropped back-to-back games for the first time since Todd McLellan took over as coach on Dec. 26, scoring just one goal in each game.

That opener set an unfortunate trend for Detroit's evening, with Dallas' best offense seeming to come always off of opportunities the Red Wings brought upon themselves. The Stars went up 2–0 on the power play eight minutes later after Detroit had multiple chances to clear the zone and failed to do so.

The Detroit Red Wings used a seven-game winning streak to climb back into the playoff race. But they won’t be able to stay in the chase if they can’t avoid the bad stretches like the one they are in now.
