KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Hours of overnight rain caused concern early Friday morning for drivers. The Missouri Department of Transportation reported water standing in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the Benton Curve heading into downtown. Water is also standing on I-70 near Noland Road in Independence as of 4 a.m.
Torrential rainfall from active thunderstorms is causing widespread flash flooding across a 1,000-mile stretch of the Plains and Midwest on Friday, with Kansas City particularly hard hit.

A flood watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning for the Kansas City area, including Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, as well as Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Johnson, Platte, and Ray counties in Missouri.
