Maharashtra: The new Mahayuti government will be sworn in at Azad Maidan in Mumbai in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence.

NCP Chief Ajit Pawar confirmed the decision for the BJP to lead Maharashtra's government, while the Mahayuti alliance faces delays. As caretaker CM Eknath Shinde deals with health issues, the oath-taking ceremony is set for December 5 with Prime Minister Modi in attendance.

Amid ongoing suspence over CM’s post, a BJP leader claimed that Mahayuti alliance’s new government in Maharashtra will be formed on December 5 with Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the frontrunner to become the next chief minister.

Ajit Pawar said that the other Mahayuti allies, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by himself, will get the Deputy Chief Minister posts.

Eknath Shinde has hinted that he is out of the race for the Maharashtra CM post, saying he will abide by PM Narendra Modi’s and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s decision on the matter. This means the path is clear for the BJP to appoint its own face for the top job.

On Tuesday, Eknath Shinde tendered his resignation as chief minister to Governor C P Radhakrishnan. The governor requested Shinde to continue as caretaker chief minister until a new government is formed.

The BJP will likely give 12 Maharashtra cabinet berths, including three big-ticket portfolios, to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena to make up for the Chief Minister post, according to sources.
