Major U.S. stock indexes were trading mostly higher midday Friday, with the S&P 500 heading for another weekly gain. The S&P 500 was up 12 points in midday trading, or 0.2%, at almost 6,088. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 115 points, or 0.6%, to trade at nearly 19,816.

Employers added 227,000 jobs in November as the labor market rebounded from anemic growth in the prior month, when hurricanes and labor disputes dampened hiring. The U.S. had been forecast to add 200,000 jobs last month, according to economists surveyed by financial data firm FactSet. The unemployment rate was expected to hold steady at 4.1%.
Labor Market Comes Back to Life in November
The jobs report was one of two key pieces of data, along with inflation readings, due out next week before the Federal Reserve meets on Dec. 17-18 to consider cutting interest rates.
