WASHINGTON − An ideologically divided Supreme Court on July 14 allowed the Trump administration to fire hundreds of workers from the Education Department and continue other efforts to dismantle the agency. The court's three liberal justices opposed the order, the latest win for President Donald Trump at the high court.
One of the latest changes is the postponement of a preventive health panel meeting by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), which was scheduled for July 10. The group sets guidelines for preventive health screenings for conditions such as diabetes, depression and cancer in children and adults.
According to the amended lawsuit, the Trump administration’s “unlawful attempts to repurpose federal grant programs established by Congress harm Plaintiffs by threatening more than $12 billion in already-awarded and soon to be awarded funds” across HUD, DOT and HHS.
The Trump administration is widening its interpretation of a law banning most immigrants living in the United States from receiving federal public benefits to include 13 new categories of programs including Head Start preschool programs for low-income children.
