The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday fined H&R Block $7 million and required the tax services company to stop advertising and customer service practices it called "unlawful" by the 2025 tax filing season.

"In addition to the $7 million payment, the settlement requires H&R Block, by the 2026 tax filing season, to stop completely deleting consumers’ previously entered information,” the FTC stated in a release regarding the settlement.
