General Motors is set to become the first U.S. automaker with a Formula 1 team when a Cadillac-branded team joins the racing series in 2026, F1 announced Monday, ending a years-long battle between the series and former driver Michael Andretti, who initially proposed a GM expansion.

Formula One announced Monday that “an agreement in principle” has been reached “with General Motors to support bringing GM/Cadillac” to the grid as the sport’s 11th team in 2026.

General Motors Cadillac will have to pay a whopping $450million to enter their team into Formula 1 as a result of F1's income being split 11 ways rather than 10.
