Heavy snow is continuing to blast the Erie, Pennsylvania, area as a lake-effect snowstorm continues to pound communities downwind of the Great Lakes. FOX Weather Correspondent Brandy Campbell was in Erie on Thursday morning where the snow has been piling up and the wind has been blowing leading to dangerous travel conditions.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland's lake-effect snow warning for Erie County extends until Friday at 7 a.m. The weather service notes that travel could be difficult at times, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has activated vehicle restrictions on interstates in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Some areas of Erie County were on pace to record nearly 5 feet of snow since the lake-effect storm gripped the region the day after Thanksgiving.

For the lake to freeze, temperatures need to be consistently cold, so the surface temperature of Lake Erie can drop to the mid-30s. Right now, some of the shallow waters near Sandusky have reached that range, but the water near Cleveland is still in the 40-degree range.

More lake-effect snow is heading our way this week. The National Weather Service office in Cleveland issued a lake-effect snow warning for the Erie area calling for about 12 inches of snow starting Wednesday night and continuing through Friday.
