Punxsutawney Phil generally gives bad news to those who desire an early end to winter weather, predicting six more weeks of cold 78 percent of the time.

In the cold early hours of Sunday, Feb. 2, the “Seer of Seers” will emerge from his cozy burrow in Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pa., to proclaim whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter weather.

Punxsutawney Phil usually makes his weather call early in the morning. It typically happens after 7 a.m. Tradition says Phil seeing his shadow is a sign that the next six weeks will bring wintry weather. If Phil doesn't see his shadow, it means an early spring.
