The White House says a call this week between the president and China’s leader is "likely" as it tries to restore a fragile truce in the U.S.-China trade war.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to speak very soon, a senior White House official told CNBC. The discussion would follow a series of recent flare-ups between Washington and Beijing that threaten to derail a tentative trade agreement between the two economic superpowers.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday that Trump and Xi would speak "very soon" to iron out trade issues including a dispute over critical minerals and China's restrictions on exports of certain minerals.
