An unusual patient arrived at our wildlife hospital last week. Meet the elusive Clapper Rail, a secretive marsh bird not often seen even by experienced bird watchers. This young rail was brought to us from Wantagh after a Good Samaritan found it grounded and unable to fly in their backyard. A thorough exam revealed no fractures—just a thin, exhausted bird, likely grounded after a collision or tough migration leg.
