Genesis released “The Knife” as a single from “Trespass” in June 1971. Considered one of the tracks that helped to establish Genesis’ reputation as a pioneering live act of the early 70s, the song was initially titled “The Nice” during development as a nod to the prog-rock outfit of the same name that were early influences on the band.
