On August 21, 1979 “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes defeated Harley Race to win his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship in front of an estimated 9,000 fans at a CWF show at the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory in Tampa, Florida. Dusty’s win ended Harley’s 926 day title reign. Just five days later, on August 26, 1979, in Orlando, Florida, Race would reclaim the title from Rhodes. | Davenport Sports Network
